The Kiha 40 series is a general type diesel car manufactured by JNR from 1977. There were three types of Kiha 40, Kiha 47, and Kiha 48 depending on the arrangement of the driver's seat and guest room doors. Moreover, there were many types of train for warm and cold areas depending on the equipment.
The Kiha 40 series 2000 was used mainly in the south and the south of the Tohoku region.
