Product Explanation ■ Second stage of comfortable commuting! 103 series Experimental air-conditioned cars (later stage)!
[Actual cars]
The 103 series was produced as a standard form of JNR commuter trains.
In 1970, one 10-car train was produced for the Yamanote Line for the purpose of testing air-conditioning systems. Three types of centralized air-conditioning systems, AU73X (made by Toshiba), AU74X (made by Hitachi) and AU75X (made by Mitsubishi) were compared and it was decided to adopt AU75.
Later, three of the 10 cars were replaced for further testing air-conditioning systems.
In 1978, all of the mass-produced AU75 cars were replaced and the characteristic air-conditioning systems disappeared.
