An attempt was made to explore the origin of the Gregorian Anthem, i.e. Western art music, by reproducing the "Ancient Roman Anthem," which is believed to have been sung in Rome before the 9th century. Some of the songs include persistent bass and fine melisma as a shadow of the penetration of Eastern Byzantine culture, and are also interesting as sound.
