This second expansion set adds three new ways of playing Pandemics : A New Ordeal.
The first is the Laboratory Challenge, which collects samples of pathogens and develops drugs in the laboratory.
The second is the Solo Play Rule, which challenges the threat of pathogens alone with the help of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The third is the Team Battle, which consists of teams of two researchers who compete for honor with rival teams.
In addition, four new roles, three new events, additional "virulent strains" effects, and new scenarios for the "mutation" challenge.
