[CD audition notes]
Karajan is the fifth recording and one of the last three major symphonies by digital recording. Just like "Pathos", it has an irresistible charm. Compared to the previous BPO album, it can be said that the overwhelming impact of the orchestra has faded a little, but on the other hand, the beauty of the first movement, the second theme and the second movement (especially string instruments!) is exceptional. Karajan is also beautiful and old.
[New CD notes]
Karajan loves Tchaikovsky's work throughout his life and records it many times. This fifth performance can be said to be one of the conclusions he made with the Vienna Philharmonic in his later years.
